St. John’s is a very child friendly congregation
We do a family Eucharist at 9 a.m. on Sunday. This liturgy combines the best of Sunday School with a very child inclusive liturgy. We have been told that it one of the best “child inclusive” liturgies but with faith lessons for adults too. Young readers serve as liturgists. Our young liturgists have gone on to be “fearless” in front of crowds since they began getting such encouragement and practice as youth liturgists. Children are also given drums and tambourines to play along with the music of the liturgy. Many of the songs have gestures and liturgical dance movements for children to follow.
Special Children Events are:
The Christmas Eve Pageant
The Outdoor service for the Blessings of Animals on the Sunday nearest to St. Francis’ Day
The Palm Procession on Palm Sunday with donkeys leading the procession
The Easter Egg Hunt
St. John’s has a youth group which meets monthly.
The older youth of St. John’s lead the liturgy on Fifth Sundays, called youth Sunday. In this service our youth are the liturgists for all roles except saying the Eucharistic Prayer.
